Why I Switched to the Free American Express Blue Card in France

After using the American Express Green Card in France for a year, I decided it wasn't worth paying the annual fee for my particular situation.

So I switched to the American Express Blue Card, which is free year after year.

For me, the main reason to keep an American Express card in France isn't actually the Membership Rewards points. While the Blue Card still lets me earn points, the redemption value for things like statement credits or gift cards can be as low as 0.3 euro cents per point.

Instead, I keep my Amex for one big reason: Amex Offers.

Amex Offers Can Save Real Money

Over the past year, I've had some surprisingly valuable offers.

For example, I was able to save €100 on a De'Longhi purchase. I also currently have a €100 cashback offer when spending €300 at SLH Hotels.

When these offers apply to something I'm already planning to buy, they can provide significant savings.

That's why I like the Blue Card. I don't have to pay an annual fee just to have access to Amex Offers.

Is the Amex Blue Card Worth It?

For me, yes.

I'm not using it primarily to maximize points. I'm using it as a free way to access Amex Offers and occasionally save money on purchases I was going to make anyway.
